Choosing the right platform for a judo club's online presence is crucial for its growth and community engagement. While Facebook is a popular and versatile social network, Judo Connect offers specific advantages tailored to the needs and aspirations of judo clubs. Here are three main reasons why Judo Connect is a better choice for a judo club compared to using Facebook as their primary social network:

The junior session was taken by Liam and during the warmup he learned a valuable lesson in instructions and interpretation when dealing with young judoka. The first part of the session was centered around Osoto Otoshi. After a full demonstration the juniors paired up and went off to practice in the form of Uchi Komi but without the throw completion. Eventually the safety mats were introduced and then they practiced the whole technique to completion with players changing partners regularly. Warmup exercises, breakfalls and cartwheels got the juniors ready for their session which took the form of Newaza. With Uke on all fours a basic turnover was demonstrated before the players paired off and went off to practice. They changed partners frequently which enabled them to experience the differences and difficulties between different partners/opponents. The second turnover demonstration saw Uke starting in the prone (lying face down) position before Tori executed the turnover. Once again they paired off and went away to practice changing partners regularly. They finished their session

The evening was warm and humid which saw plenty of water breaks for the juniors during their session which started with warmup exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels all of which continue to improve. The session followed on from last week so after a demonstration of a turnover into Yoko shiho gatame the juniors paired up to practice. The second turnover saw a transition into Kesa gatame. Both were initiated from the prone position and also saw numerous changes so everyone got to experience working with players of different experience and size. Newaza changes followed using the techni

A warm evening saw the juniors session quickly get to ‘temperature’ with their warmup exercises and breakfalls. After this the session started with a demonstration of Ogoshi but initially not completing the throw. This was about ensuring that the juniors were able to correctly turn in and position themselves to execute a good technique. After some time practicing this they then moved on to completing the throw using the safety mats and also changing partners regularly. After a water break a demonstration of Kuzure Kesa gatame was shown and then they went off to practice changing partners ofte

The junior session started energetically with warmup exercises, breakfalls and cartwheels. The evening was mainly about Newaza and the first demonstration was Mune gatame. The juniors were paired off and numbered 1 and 2. Number 1 (Tori) put the hold on and the number 2 (Uke) made efforts to escape. After about 10 seconds Mate was called to see how many had escaped. The players then changed position and the exercise was done again. This was followed by changing partners and practicing the routine again and again seeing who was able to escape. The 2nd demonstration was of Kesa gatame and the s

The juniors followed their usual warmup of exercises, stretching, breakfalls and cartwheels before starting their technical drills. This centred around Mune gatame and the escape. A demonstration was completed and they then partnered up to practice. All the players worked really hard producing some good identifiable techniques. The session then changed slightly, Liam who is completing his level one coaching came in to learn all about the games our juniors play as part of their warm down. He was treated to turtles, zombies, stuck in the mud, belt game, snakes and finally sea and shore. This ses

Warmup exercises and breakfalls strarted the junior session. This week a demonstration of Deashi barai and the transition into Mune gatame was shown before they paired up and moved away to practice. As previously the more experienced players teamed up with the newer ones. A warm evening saw plenty of water breaks. Before finally finishing each pair demonstrated their techniques to the whole class. A final game of dodgeball completed the session. During this session Tumas and Matis were taking part in their 2nd Mon grading and hopefully will complete it next week.

Wednesday evening junior session started with warmup exercises, stretching, breakfalls and some cartwheels. A simple turnover into Kesa gatame was demonstrated by the coach and after everyone was sure they knew what they were doing they moved off in pairs to practice. Every couple on minutes they changed partners so they got to try with different weight and size to see the difference/difficulty in turning opponents over. The more they practiced the better their technique became. They then tried something a bit different for them. With Tori on all fours and Uki reaching over Tori’s back the ar

Wednesday nights junior session started with the usual warmup followed by some stretching, breakfalls and cartwheels. The juniors were then split into two groups to practice the De ashi Bari foot sweeping action going around cones and travelling up and down the mat. A break for water was followed by Tachi waza and Newaza randori to finish the technical session and a game of dodgeball finished the session. Everyone worked well during the session particularly in the randori.

After their warmup of exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels the junior group was split into two groups. The older group focused their efforts on transition into Newaza using various throws and transition as quickly as possible. The younger group used the safety mats and focused on Osoto Otoshi and transitioning into Kesa gatame. They carried this out in a round robin. Both groups worked well and produced some good results. They finally finished their session with their favourite game, dodgeball.

Firstly we must welcome Mark back to the club. He has been absent for a while with some ‘dodgy mechanics!’ but fortunately all seems to be well now. You will have to go steady for a while to make sure everything works as it should!!

Warmups, exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels formed the basis of the start of the junior session. As they were going to begin learning Harai goshi balance exercises were also used, balancing on the left leg then raising the right leg to the rear trying to keep it straight. They began their technique with the arm around their partners waist and continued this in Uchi Komi initially without throwing, so good technique was essential. They then progressed to using the safety mats completing the whole technique. As they progressed some good results were becoming evident. They also tried

The juniors started back after the Easter break with warmups, exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels. Despite the break the juniors are still improving well. The evening session centred on Tomoenage and the fancy cartwheel escape, not really a juniors throw but a bit of fun and hopefully getting them to think of other types of escape. Working in pairs initially one player laid down and the other attempted a cartwheel over their partner. This was then progressed to the player on the mat sitting up and taking a grip and then laying down and the other player then attempting the cartwhee

Hi Pete, really enjoying the training out here in Georgia. Feel strong and dealing with the big arm over a lot lot better now, had 4x4 min newaza this morning and 6x4 min tashiwaza at the club which was real good with a tough warmup - 50 mins, then just finished the session at the grand slam training camp - also 4x4 min newaza and 6x5min standing. Feeling fit and fought some good strong players but managing to hold my own nicely, got caught a few times by a couple guys that are 73’s but I’m feeling just as strong as anyone 66’s , overall 2 good sessions today but bo

After shutting last week because of covid we are open again and the juniors were straight back into training as if nothing had happened. After their warmup some stretching and breakfalls they were split into three groups where they practiced the basic turnover with Uke in an ‘all fours’ position. There was some finer instruction of where to place the arms as some of the players were having trouble trying to put an arm through the gap between arms and legs. Once that was cleared up things progressed well and by the end of the session they were much better than when they started. The junior sess

This weeks junior session started with warmup exercises followed by breakfalls then cartwheels. We had a couple of new starters who were then taken to one side and taught their breakfalls. For the remainder Osoto otoshi was demonstrated and they were then split into groups and proceeded to practice using the safety mats to help cushion their fall. After this they demonstrated their techniques to the whole group. De ashi Bari on the move was then demonstrated next then and again they moved away into space to practice this. They finished their session with a couple of games dodgeball.

This weeks started with the juniors completing their warmup, stretches and breakfalls before moving onto the first part of their session. This took the form of a demonstration of how and where to place the feet for Tai otoshi. The juniors practiced this firstly individually then with a partner and finally as a complete throw. The safety mats were used to help cushion the repeated landings. Then they moved onto Kesa gatame and then combined this with the throw before demonstrating their efforts in front of everyone. We can report that there were some good examples shown indicating good progre

After their warmup, stretches and breakfalls the juniors watched a demonstration of a simple turnover into Kesa gatame before moving off with a partner to practice. There were a number of partner changes so everyone got the chance to try the technique on different sizes of opponent. They also used this time to ensure they were able to get into Kesa gatame quickly without losing control of their partner. Then they moved onto some Newaza randori before finishing their session with a couple of games of dodgeball.

This week the juniors session was missing a numbers of players due to school holidays however our diehards started their session with a warmup followed by stretching and breakfalls (Ukemi). Then they had a go at cartwheels, some good some needing a bit more practice. The technical part of the training focused on Osoto othoshi paying attention to hand placement on the jacket and also to foot placement. After this the juniors moved on to Newaza work concentrating on Osaekomi waza (hold downs or pinning) before finishing with a game of cat and mouse then dodgeball as a form of warming down.
