Warmups, exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels formed the basis of the start of the junior session. As they were going to begin learning Harai goshi balance exercises were also used, balancing on the left leg then raising the right leg to the rear trying to keep it straight. They began their technique with the arm around their partners waist and continued this in Uchi Komi initially without throwing, so good technique was essential.
