A very energetic session tonight at the club. 5 Dan grades on the mat including Clément, from our French sister club, Mayenne Judo Club. Tonight's two hour session was learning a few "Old School" techniques along with plenty of newaza and tachi-waza. It was also nice to see Jemima back on the mat after a few years away.

Warmup exercises, breakfalls and cartwheels got the juniors ready for their session which took the form of Newaza. With Uke on all fours a basic turnover was demonstrated before the players paired off and went off to practice. They changed partners frequently which enabled them to experience the differences and difficulties between different partners/opponents. The second turnover demonstration saw Uke starting in the prone (lying face down) position before Tori executed the turnover. Once again they paired off and went away to practice changing partners regularly. They finished their session

The evening was warm and humid which saw plenty of water breaks for the juniors during their session which started with warmup exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels all of which continue to improve. The session followed on from last week so after a demonstration of a turnover into Yoko shiho gatame the juniors paired up to practice. The second turnover saw a transition into Kesa gatame. Both were initiated from the prone position and also saw numerous changes so everyone got to experience working with players of different experience and size. The junior session started energetically with warmup exercises, breakfalls and cartwheels. The evening was mainly about Newaza and the first demonstration was Mune gatame. The juniors were paired off and numbered 1 and 2. Number 1 (Tori) put the hold on and the number 2 (Uke) made efforts to escape. After about 10 seconds Mate was called to see how many had escaped. The players then changed position and the exercise was done again. This was followed by changing partners and practicing the routine again and again seeing who was able to escape.
