We're wishing the best of luck to Aerospace Engineering alumni, Oli Wilkes, who is competing in the Men's Rowing Four Final in the Olympics for Great Britain this morning! 👏

Oli began his rowing journey during his time with us in 2014 whilst in his second year. Prior to this, Oli was a swimmer, and pre-university competed in a national championship relay team, this gave him his first insight into elite sport. Whilst studying with us, Oli attended a rowing taster in his first year, and decided to join the team in his second year.

After completing his studies with us, Oli went on to Edinburgh

The TeamGB Men’s Eight crew, which included four talented Brookes athletes, secured a Gold medal in their final on Saturday. This came just two days after the Men’s Coxless Four, comprised entirely of Brookes rowers, won a Bronze medal!

Then, on Sunday, Coach Peter took a fantastic silver medal at the British Masters championships 🥈

Last weekend our club head coach took a very big risk entering the Veterans European Championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is the largest event he has done since undergoing two lots of eye surgery and being certified visually impaired. Being a VI player and competing in a mainstream event is extremely demanding. Especially at this level but he decided to give it his all. He had this to say.

“Overall, I am happy with my performance, apart from a tactical error I made in the quarter final where I lost against the current world silver medalist.

I used a combination of dynamic throwing

Firstly the James Gouge achievement award for her outstanding work on her judo movement and throwing and then she took home the Jimmy Green award on the second session, it was her first time stepping up to the next lesson, completing another 2 hrs of technical judo. She took it all in her stride and nothing phased her!
