Will you be watching the judo at the Olympics?
It is a great way to help judo players of all ages see the sport and what can be achieved from competing, refereeing, time keeping and even a coach on the side lines!
Many of the club coaches will be tuning in to some or all of the matches! 🥋
Koka Kids Junior Judo Magazine has created an amazing booklet that tells you which groups are fighting when and helps you record the medals 🏅
There are even questions about judo as you go through it too, so a fun way for your child to interact with the sport and see what they notice to

A great couple of sessions with Bea, Immy and Elsie-Mae enjoying some extra judo with some new friends on one session and Tyla not sure if she enjoyed the tough randori on another 🤣🤣

Today we had 6 of our Judoka take part in their first REDS session of the year. It was a tough day but all of them rose to the occasion 😊
Somewhere in this picture you’ll find Tyla, Ashlie, Izzy, Nate, Keanu and Will…who knew that it was so hard to get 6 teenagers stood in the same place while in the same building 🤣🤣

Not to be left out, Steve did a bit of travelling yesterday (not as far as Tyla-Jane!) and joined in at Flo Judo Club’s open randori session. Reciprocity is such an important aspect of judo!

A fab day had by the whole Drake Par team at the Kazoku Red and Yellow Belt competition today.
For half of the team it was their first ever experience of a competition and everyone did amazingly!! 🥰

Very proud that DJC Centres came together today for the first Female Empowerment session of 2023, players from Redruth, Par, Plymouth, FLO (Plympton) and of course Barnstaple were in attendance!
Buiding the female community is a large priority for the coaches and leadership team at Drake Judo (it always has been) but having a place where females can train, learn, socialise, discuss Female specific issues and most of all have fun is so very very important
A massive thankyou to Fran for hosting, organising and leading this one.
Im very hopeful our next one wil be held in Tavistock

What a day!!!
So many of our Sho grades and Red and Yellow belts were having their first experience of competitive judo and they all smashed it!!
Steve, Tyla-Jane and Amber are all very proud of you…Tavistock next anyone?!?! 😃
Thank you to my band of mummies who pulled it out of the bag on Mother’s Day (next time I’ll instruct you to keep the tea coming 🤣)

The next Western Area Development Day has been confirmed for Sunday May 7th.
Suitable from 7 years up this is a great opportunity for our judoka to experience sessions at a slightly different level as well as training with new people.
It would be great for parents to attend as they usually have something for them too but I’ll be taking Tyla so I’ll have 3 spaces in the car if needed 😊

April is Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month.
All of us at Drake Judo Par are sending all of our love and support to Coach Rowann at Redruth Judo Club as her son, Coach Jago continues his fight so bravely.
For all of April our members will be able to wear a burgundy tshirt under their gi jackets.
Keep fighting Jago, we’re right behind you!!

We have exciting news and can now confirm that we will have a Monthly Open Mat Randori Western Area Session in Plymouth on the 27th May and 24th June.
We have teamed up with Drake Judo to use the Life Centre on Saturdays.
The initial program will run until the summer and then return in September on the first Saturday of each month.
This is very much like a return to the old Excell South Training Program, its very exciting news for all the judoka who are looking for quality Randori together in the Southwest Region.

Lots of shiny new belts and stripes were given out in our latest grading (I’ll post pics next week…how do you forget to take pictures of the first class?! 🤦🏻♀️😆) Well done guys!!
Most importantly of all one of our assistant coaches, Amber was awarded her black belt after successfully passing her technical Dan grading last week. Ross even came to embarrass her about how long he’s known her 😆
