Many of you will know our amazing Judoka, Darcie, Morgan and Zac. Their mum Claire was diagnosed with Cancer earlier this year and following surgery is now undergoing Chemo treatment. The Thomas’ are a huge part of our club, Claire and Gary have been supporting us on and off the mat and now it’s time to return their faith in us. I was honoured to be a Coach for three of my Adaptive competitors that took part in the prestigious European Judo Union Tournament July 2024 held in Swansea, Wales. Quite a daunting trip for our players who have Autism and ADHD and are happier at our home club. Kagan is our experienced competitor with Siobhan having a little experience and Scott never having competed before. Kagan is our youngest at 12 years. I am deeply humbled to have coached three amazing people at my first ever and theirs, European Judo Union Tournament, held in Swansea.

For each of them it meant overcoming certain challenges as they have mixed needs, such as Down syndrome, visual impairments, Autism, and ADHD.

Beanie and Isaac, are our seasoned competitors, travelled along with Georgina, who likes to compete but not as often. Each of them demonstrated extraordinary resilience and dedication.

At just 12 years old, Isaac is a classic example of how incredible achievements are possible

Congratulations to Hadley and our head coach Sensei Calvin who both competed in the European Judo Union VI championships held in Swansea in Wales last weekend. This was Hadley’s first experience at this international level, he came up against a Dutch player in the bronze final who he beat earning himself a well deserved Bronze medal 🥉 while Sensei Calvin won Gold 🥇in his group!

It is immediately after our Saturday Sessions, please join us at Neath YMCA if you are able to enjoy another two hours of judo and raise funds for Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT).

Session is suitable for all judoka who wish to attend. Session is 1:15-3:15 and Mat fee is whatever you feel comfortable donating towards the charity.
