The last Saturday in the Month will be a Veterans Regional Randori for London Area at The Budokwai starting this month! This session is coached by Ray Stevens, 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist

The following day (last Sunday of the month) is the monthly Dan grading also at the Budokwai.

The Budokwai is the oldest judo club in Europe, being founded in 1918 and always has a selection of judo royalty visiting!

Great performance by Kayden today at the Kent International Judo Tournament. Fighting in the junior men’s (u19’s) event, he won the bronze medal with some lovely judo against top level opponents. A total of 3 wins from 4 contests, only losing to the eventual gold medalist in the semi final 🥉🥋

Last weekend our club head coach took a very big risk entering the Veterans European Championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is the largest event he has done since undergoing two lots of eye surgery and being certified visually impaired. Being a VI player and competing in a mainstream event is extremely demanding. Especially at this level but he decided to give it his all. He had this to say.

Yesterday was the first of four coaching development sessions led by the one and only Neil Adams, 2X Olympic Silver medalist, World champion, 5X European champion and now known the world over as "the Voice of Judo".

Our head coach Daniel Hankinson spent the day in great company with Neil, his wife Niki and the five other lucky coaches chosen for this program.

The day was a true learning experience, with all of the coaches gaining the benefits of Neil's vast knowledge and experience in Judo!

It was bronze🥉for Samantha Chraniuk at the European Veteran Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia on Saturday in F3 -70kg

Antony Ashton M3 -66kg and Simon Weaver-Poole M4 -73kg competed in their first Euro Vets on Friday. Both put in strong performances in tough groups. Ant challenged both the silver and bronze medalists.

Congratulations to our three medalists at the NIJF competition yesterday in the Foyle Arena - Antoni, Joe and Luca. I saw a few of their fights and their technique, drive and energy was a pleasure to watch and they deserved their wins. Well done, especially as it was their first Kyu event. Disappointed that Lucas couldn’t get a fight in the Mon event as I’m sure that he would have done at least as well as the other three.

Long day at the London Open with Maia and Ethan - a tough start in a big group for Maia against the eventual gold medalist - but some real positives. She was winning her second but lost momentary focus and was caught near the end of the contest. Not her day and probably not the Maia we all know - but loads more experience for her ever developing judo!!! Ethan’s group was disappointingly small - but he fought two players who he has previously both won and lost against - this time Ethan demonstrated his superb judo winning both contests with controlled and beautiful judo - so a gold medal!!! 😊😊😊
