Choosing the right platform for a judo club's online presence is crucial for its growth and community engagement. While Facebook is a popular and versatile social network, Judo Connect offers specific advantages tailored to the needs and aspirations of judo clubs. Here are three main reasons why Judo Connect is a better choice for a judo club compared to using Facebook as their primary social network:

Why Judo is good for children?

Judo was founded by a small old man. He weighed 87 pounds at his peak. If it’s not already obvious, Judo can teach a weak child how to defend him/herself against a bigger and/or stronger opponent. Judo is based on a philosophy of “maximum efficiency and minimal effort”, which means that brute force and overpowering strength are not always the avenues to success. By properly understanding body movements, leverage, balance, and the use of an opponent’s momentum, as well as gravity itself, a small person can easily overpower a large person. A skilled child Judo

Don’t forget we are closed on Monday because of the Bank Holiday 👍

Hane Goshi (Springing Hip)

A hip throw adapted from Harai Goshi or Uchi Mata. There is some debate in the judo community if it was Jigoro Kano or Yoshitsugo Yamashita who invented the throw. However, everyone agrees it came from adapting a favourite throw due to injury.

1, Break your opponent’s balance to their front or right front corner
2, Pull uke close to your right side
3, Throw uke with the combined upward-springing action of your right hip and right leg.

Who do you think invented Hane Goshi? Kano or Yamashita?

Great day out at Bonsai Kyoso in livingston today.

First up was the girl category and the only girl we had competing today was Mila, who came out the traps absolutely flying (literally!!) winning her first 2 fights some great throws and brilliant transition to ne waza. In her third fight she diverted her attention elsewhere for a split second and her opponent capitalised on it with a fantastic throw.

In the next group we had Oscar, Callan and Harris all competing across 3 mats at the same time!

First up was Callan to kick the boys section off. In his first fight he showed great balance and

Warmups, exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels formed the basis of the start of the junior session. As they were going to begin learning Harai goshi balance exercises were also used, balancing on the left leg then raising the right leg to the rear trying to keep it straight. They began their technique with the arm around their partners waist and continued this in Uchi Komi initially without throwing, so good technique was essential. They then progressed to using the safety mats completing the whole technique. As they progressed some good results were becoming evident. They also tried

Today's favourite comes from Nicholas, and is part of our grading on Sunday!

Tai Otoshi (Hand throw shoulder drop)

Made famous by the great Neil Adams MBE this is a staple in the UK taught in most clubs regularly. Here is how to do the throw:

2, As uke steps forward, stick your leg out to block their pathway. Don’t make contact. Your leg should be a short distance in front of uke’s leg.
3, As uke trips over your leg, use your hands to steer the direction. Pull the sleeve outw
