Huge thanks to Paul Ajala for coming along and delivering a brilliant session for our teen & adult members last night! 👍
White belts to Dan grades, everyone gave 100% effort and came away smiling, and somewhat sweaty, which is definitely the mark of a great judo lesson!
Well done to all that took part.

This is a weekend of two halves, with a big competition for over 40 of our members today, which we'll update you on this evening... but yesterday was our fantastic Summer Social & BBQ, which (based on ice-cream tokens used) over 150 of you attended! An wonderful day of fun for all ages, and the sun stayed, if not "out" at least "around" all day!
💥Thank you so much to Liz, and her team of volunteers for putting together another great event. Everyone I spoke to was having a great time, and really appreciated the efforts you went to for us. 💥
Thanks to all those who brought salads, baked cakes,

As we build a more complete history of St. Albans Judo Club from 1950 to today, it’s our first 25 years that are least documented - not surprising with the passage of time. We do have these great photos from the Club Championships in 1967 though!
The height of this Dan grade’s ukemi is impressive, especially given the mats were packed with straw at the time! We’d love to track down any judoka who remember those early years…🥋 #JudoFamily #judoclub #judo #sajudo

This week we got the excellent news that long time member, previously coach, & always good friend of the club, Brenden Hill was awarded his 1st Dan (black belt) at the BJC Cromer Course. 👏
This is a fantastic & well deserved achievement for a young man who has put so much into his training over the years. (A far cry now from the diddy 6-year old who first came to us all that time ago!)
This coming week he is setting off to follow his long term dreams, moving to the USA to be with his Grandparents in Montana. Please join me, on behalf of SAJC, in both congratulating him on his grade, and wis

Last night we had the great pleasure of awarding 6 new Yellow Belts to our latest Adult beginners group. 👍👍👍
They've been a pleasure to teach from start to finish, and we look forward to them joining the ranks on our regular classes going forward. We have a couple more gradings to finish up next week, and then our next Beginners Course will run between end of September & December.
In the meantime, Thursday night 8:00-9:00pm continues to run as our Senior Open mat, come in, join us, practice what you feel you want to work on most with a partner, or group up and all work on the same things - i

🥋 Another excellent day out on Sunday at the BJC Open National Championships. 9 Competitors in total, although 3 of them seem to have escaped the camera!
A hard event for some, but all showed good judo, along with excellent sportsmanship, and great courage to step up to this level of competition.
Sadly no placing this time for Isla, Dan, Sam or Ben in their categories.
David & George M, both in large groups, made it through their initial pools with some good wins and progressed into the final crossover pool, but were unlucky in their bronze medal matches, so both came away with 5th place - S

🥉Henry F (Hatfield)
🥇George R (Rush)
Big apologies to those whose participation got missed! 🫣

Great day out for our younger members yesterday at the Bishops Stortford U8s Festival. Split into age groups for 6 year olds & 7 year olds, we even managed to snap a whole team photo in the middle.
Well done to Aillie, Cora, Lizzie, Theo, Ruairi, Finn & Max on your excellent performances! 👍
For some this was their first time taking part in anything outside our own dojo, and they all handled it brilliantly. The judo was strong, and they all gave it their best efforts, putting into practice what we learn in class.
Great work from Samuel who came along as assistant coach to look after them, d

✨Well done ✨ to the team who took part in the Southfields Open yesterday. A great competition with some excellent judo on display at all levels - the medals we brought home were all extremely hard won.
Fantastic work from everyone, with lots of good attacking judo and demonstration that what we've been learning is sinking in. Whilst some were disappointed that they didn't get a medal this time, as Coach I was extremely proud of everyone's efforts. 👍👏
Extra shout out to Max D, Halid B & Freya R who's pools had equal wins for everyone at the end & had to be fought through a 2nd time!💪
