A very energetic session tonight at the club. 5 Dan grades on the mat including Clément, from our French sister club, Mayenne Judo Club. Tonight's two hour session was learning a few "Old School" techniques along with plenty of newaza and tachi-waza. It was also nice to see Jemima back on the mat after a few years away.

It's official!!🥋🎉
Our very own Evan Molloy will be representing Great Britain at the 2024 Paralympic games in Paris! Evan started his Judo journey at our club when he was 13 years old under the watchfull eye of Mark Burbidge and Jason Parsons. They saw a spark of genuine talent in him and soon had him in the Devizes Squad. From there it's been an upwards trajectory ever since from Western Area squad to representing his nation at the biggest stage. Good luck Evan, all of Devizes is behind you! 🇬🇧💜

An enjoyable evening at the club last night as we welcomed Paralympians Evan Molloy (GB) and Liana Mutia (USA) onto the mat before they both head for Paris. The young judoka on the mat were reminded that Evan started at Devizes Budo Club at the same age as them and worked extremely hard to get where he is today. Evan and Liana spoke with parents and judoka about the forthcoming games and gave words of encouragement to the younger members. We all wished them luck for the Paralympic games and it was great having them on the mat.

Congratulations to this weeks two judoka of the week.
In our first session Rose shown fantastic resilience when learning a new tricky technique.
In our second session Foster put in 110% effort (as always) and shown some great movement when trying to set up a throw.

On Sunday 16th June we delivered our first Ju-No-Kata course at South Brent JC, with players coming from across Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire & Scotland, of which five of the players were also accredited with it as a coach revalidation event.
All course members showed excellent engagement, effort & enthusiasm to develop their understanding & performance of this kata, & therefore they all received a BJA Certificate of Attendance. For 3 of the course members is another requirement for their 7th Dan completed.

Our Monday session is growing Week on week!
Last night's session had 22 attendees on the mat learning Soto-Maki-Komi.
This session is well tailored to older players with a good mixture of technical work, moderate gymnastics and randoori.

Well done to Will who was our judoka of the week for the first session on Friday night. Will passed his latest grading with flying colours and was exemplary on the mat throughout the session.
Noah was the judoka of the week in the second session. Noah also flew through all the techniques required from him for his latest grading and had a really good session.

Devizes Judo Club female player of the year!
An absolutely massive congratulations to Katie for winning Female player of the year. Awarded at the 2024 AGM, this award is one of the most prestigious available at the club and Katie was a perfect fit for it this year.
Myself (Ed) and Will are both unbelievably proud of the progress Katie has made in the last year, growing in confidence, technical ability and much more. Winning medals all over the region, Katie has shown a fearless attitude when competing against some tough opponents and is a joy to coach.
Katie is an absolute credit to the club

A massive well done to Max for being our Monday Judoka of the week!
We normally wouldn't do an award for a Monday session but Max has only recently joined the club and should be immensely proud of the progress he has made in such a short amount of time and deserves some serious credit for the hard work he has been putting in.
