Serry Shoaib, a dedicated BSc (Hons) Ecology & Conservation student, has just returned from an exciting research trip with the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD). She investigated the population status and threats to the endangered marine dugong (sea cow) by interviewing local fishermen. Serry also had the unique opportunity to visit Malquot, a rescued dugong now cared for by Seaworld Abu Dhabi, thanks to the EAD's 2023 efforts! Check out the fantastic photos from her adventure!

Construction of ARU Peterborough’s new £32million Lab building, which incorporates a Living Lab to be used by the community as well as students, has been completed.
The Lab will be ready for ARU Peterborough’s annual community day tomorrow (Saturday, 17 August), where members of the public can explore the new building.
Professor Ross Renton, Principal of ARU Peterborough, said: “We are thrilled to be able to open this innovative new building for the start of the 2024/25 academic year in September".

Congratulations to Husnah Tarab, who has achieved two remarkable milestones this year. Just five weeks before sitting her final Medicine exams, Husnah welcomed her daughter, Yara Selene, into the world. Despite the challenges of recovering from a caesarean section, she successfully completed her exams and graduated from ARU last week.
Her journey was made possible through the unwavering support of her partner, family, and peers at ARU’s School of Medicine. Husnah is now celebrating both her new role as a doctor and as a mother.

The National Organisation for Practice Teaching England (NOPT Practice Education) held its annual conference at ARU Peterborough in June.
NOPT hosted a range of workshops throughout the day, as well as hearing from Dr Pamela Trevithick, representatives from the British Association of Social Workers, Community Care Inform, and our keynote speakers, Hannah and Emma who presented a session on reflective practice models.

It was a pleasure to welcome students from Thomas Deacon Academy and Queen Katharine Academy, part of the Thomas Deacon Education Trust, for a bespoke university open day.
The students attended presentations on university life, the student experience and degree apprenticeships before breaking out into workshops to gain a deeper understanding of the undergraduate courses of their choice.
It was fantastic to see over 150 students on campus getting a taste of university ahead of Year 13.

CAR-T therapy, short for "chimeric antigen receptor T-cell" therapy, is revolutionising cancer treatment by reprogramming a patient’s own immune cells to fight their cancer. This innovative approach involves modifying T-cells in a lab to better recognise and attack cancer cells, then infusing them back into the patient.
Recent FDA investigations are looking into potential risks of secondary cancers, with 33 cases documented among around 30,000 treated patients. Despite these concerns, CAR-T therapy continues to offer hope, especially for those with difficult-to-treat lymphomas.
