Serry Shoaib, a dedicated BSc (Hons) Ecology & Conservation student, has just returned from an exciting research trip with the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD). She investigated the population status and threats to the endangered marine dugong (sea cow) by interviewing local fishermen. Serry also had the unique opportunity to visit Malquot, a rescued dugong now cared for by Seaworld Abu Dhabi, thanks to the EAD's 2023 efforts! Check out the fantastic photos from her adventure!

New research from ARU reveals that engaging in creative activities such as arts and crafts can significantly enhance life satisfaction and mental wellbeing, offering benefits comparable to those of being employed.

The study, published in Frontiers in Public Health, analyzed data from over 7,000 participants and found that those involved in creative activities reported higher levels of happiness and a stronger sense that life is worthwhile. We're thrilled to announce that Dr William Allchorn has joined the International Policing and Public Protection Research Institute (IPPPRI) team at ARU!

Dr Allchorn, an expert in far-right extremist social movements, will enhance our research in extremism and counter-terrorism alongside Dr. Elisa Orofino and Professor Tim McSweeney. This collaboration will explore new research themes including extremism on gaming platforms, youth and gender roles in radicalisation, and the impact of misinformation online.
