Professor Aled Jones from ARU is advocating for a revolutionary approach: integrating the protection of species and habitats into financial decision-making.

In his recent article for The Actuary, Professor Jones, chair of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' Biodiversity Working Party, argues that biodiversity loss should be viewed with the same urgency as climate change, proposing that financial values be assigned to natural assets.

The ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity - an integrated health and education service.

It's Mental Health Awareness Week and this year's theme is 'moving more for our mental health'. A big shout out goes to our fantastic horticultural team for running this biodiversity campus tour.

Earlier this month, Senior Lecturers in Horticulture and Landscape Management Mick and Christine Lavelle travelled over to Islington to deliver an afternoon of lectures relating to sustainable practices that encourage garden wildlife and promote soil biodiversity at the Islington Ecology Centre.

These lectures were to help support the Islington In Bloom initiative, which was set up by one of our first year BSc Horticulture students, David Bamford, who works for the parks department there.

A donation from the University's Community Fund has helped Cambo Heritage Trust support volunteers to develop new skills and help combat climate change challenges.

The Trust’s Compost Club was awarded £1800 for its efforts to reduce or reuse waste positively around the gardens.

Since it was launched the Compost Club has developed to include the creation of a ‘dead hedge’ in the children’s play area that promotes biodiversity; composted all green waste from the café including coffee grounds, tissues, and paper towels; and established ‘no dig’ beds in the vegetable garden with waste cardboard

Today, in honour of the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and International Women's Day, the School of Biology EDI committee will be hosting a public lecture by Professor Rosemary Gillespie from the University of California in Berkeley, USA.

The lecture, entitled 'Discovery and diversity: spiders on remote Oceanic islands', will be followed by a brief Q&A session and refreshments will be available.

The event is open to all members of the public and the University.
