Great to see the fitness improvements every week in our players who have been attending our outdoor sessions.

Here are some of them at the end of a 5km run today in Mabie Forest.

We split up the sessions based on fitness, so there is a group suitable for everyone, get in touch if you want to join in.

Great News!!

Following today’s announcement by the Scottish Government, we are reopening indoor sessions for our under 18 year old members from next week in our Castle Douglas venue.

Unfortunately, our Dumfries classes will have to wait until Tuesday 18th May, as we cannot get into the hall in DG1 due to the election. If anyone aged under 18 from our Dumfries classes would like to train in Castle Douglas until then, we will try to book extra hall time, so please let me know.

Our weekly zoom class will move from Wednesday to Tuesday as of next week, due to the Castle Douglas classes being

Well done again to everyone who joined us in our outdoor session today in Mabie Forest- it was a warm day for running, you all did brilliantly though! Again apologies to our first class- I keep forgetting to get photos of you lot, I’ll try to get some next week.

We even had some of our prize winners from JudoScotland’s Fighting Fit competition wearing their new Fighting Fit clothing they won- congratulations again to all of our winners!

There are many benefits to doing judo. Not only is judo great fun and a fantastic way of making new friends, it can also boost confidence as well as improving physical fitness.

Well done to the players who came along to our outdoor sessions today in Mabie Forest.

The sessions were a bit quieter today, but the ones who were there all worked extra hard to make up for it!

It’s great to see our Castle Douglas junior players back on the mat, although still with some restrictions on numbers and class length.

Not too long until our Dumfries juniors, and seniors in both clubs, can get back on the mat too.

We have some spaces available if anyone is interested in trying judo for the first time, or returning after a break (under 18 only at this stage, but please still get in touch even if you are older). Please contact us to discuss if you would like to give it a try.

Another great effort from our players in our outdoor sessions today at Mabie Forest.

They didn’t let a little bit of (heavy) rain put them off their training!

Remember, after requests from our junior players, our outdoor sessions are going to continue even when we are all back to indoor judo.

Remember our outdoor session is still running, even though we are now also able to train indoors.

Everyone should have received an email about our outdoor session this Sunday in Mabie Forest at 1pm. We have combined both classes into one, as the numbers could not sustain 2 separate classes.

Booking is essential, see the email for details of how to book (seniors can book using the same link they use for indoor sessions).

Well done Caedan!

This is the winner of the 2 personalised Fighting Films JudoScotland Superstar Gi’s, Caedan from Castle Douglas Judo Club/Dumfries Judo Academy. As you can see the Fighting Fit Challenge has certainly put some power into his Seoi Nage! We are so proud to have seen such determination and effort from our members.

This is an ideal event for any of our junior players, and it’s in Kilmarnock, so not too far to travel on a Friday evening- and it’s completely free!!

It would be well worth attending, so get your entries in!

It’s a great chance to experience judo outside the club, with other young people from other clubs, in a fun and non-competitive environment.

Speak to one of the coaches at the club if you have any questions about the event.

Join Rachel Tytler for a fantastic Friday evening of Judo!

As a long-term member of the Scottish and British squad, Rachel has medalled at competitions across

Thank you very much to the very talented Marion (14 years old) who has given this awesome painting to the club!

Great job, it looks amazing!!

Marion based the painting on a photo of herself practicing her harai goshi in the club.

Happy International Womens Day!
We want to celebrate all the women involved in Judo, especially within our club.

Last year our first ever female coach, Jasmin, qualified as a coach, and we also recently saw our first ever female black belt Rheigan get her Dan grade. Both will be at training tonight!

Also a big well done to all the other women in the club, particularly in our female only session on Saturday mornings!

It was great to have a visit from Alex Reid (6th Dan) at our Castle Douglas session tonight.

Alex kindly taught some newaza techniques, and joined in the rest of the session.
Unfortunately it was a quiet session, but the people there all had a great time.

Can all club members/parents please check your emails?

We have sent out some important information that you need to be aware of. If you have not received an email, please let us know.

There are changes you need to be aware of due to the relaxation of some of the covid rules, along with some additional changes for the next 2 weeks for our Dumfries players, as DG1 is being used for the election count.

We didn’t have long to wait for our young artist Marion’s latest artwork- she’s just completed a painting of Kosei Inoue throwing Nicholas Gill with Uchi Mata.

She’s amazingly talented and still only 15 years of age!

Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!!

I’ve also included her other great paintings she has already done.

Great efforts tonight from both our junior and senior classes, getting some practice for JudoScotland’s #fightingfit 2022 competition

Our juniors had a go at the ‘Gi Shuffle’ challenge, while our seniors had a tough night practicing ‘Our Greatest Glory’ and ‘Bring Sally Up- Press Ups’!

Great effort by all, and still time for everyone to enter the competition, it’s free to join and there are great lucky dip prizes for all age groups, along with prizes for the winners. There’s just 7 exercises to complete, most of which we’ll do in the club. Enter here if you haven’t already: https://www.jud
