So Thursday was the last PE lesson with the P7's of Westfield primary. With a heavy heart we say sayonara and good luck at your new high school.
As we are fast approaching the summer holidays, attendance inevitable drops off. Please check we have enough players to run the class before driving off.
The club will, as usual, run classes at Chryston Parish church over the summer. The timetable will be published next week.

A proud moment for Barry! Promoted to 1st Dan after a lot of hard work. A big thank you to all the players at Shettleston who helped him on his journey, especially the fantastic coaching team of Alex and Paul. No matter how many times over the passed 30 years I’ve had the privilege of presenting the coveted black belt, it still retains its unique status. Everyone who has ever practiced Judo understands the commitment required, every coach has the same feeling of pride having watched their player grow for nervous beginner to accomplished black belt. Again, well done Barry.

Congratulations to our first ever under 8’s class on passing their first grade! A step toward the coveted black belt!
As Monday is a bank holiday no class at St Maurices, so enjoy the weekend and hopefully the good weather.

Friend of the club, Chris Murphy, the Shettleston superstar has just returned from a trip to Japan. I think his idea for our club expansion might be a touch ambitious? Hopefully when things get back to normal he’ll visit us and share what must have been a fabulous experience.
Still waiting for paperwork from a few players. No paperwork = no new grade.
Highlight of my week was a pupil having a temper tantrum when he didn’t win. Demanded the head teacher sack me! I thought “there goes the next chair of JudoScotland”.

Also - Grading time! Over the next few weeks we will be grading all eligible players. Paperwork will be distributed and useful videos added to our club app. Please check the app for updates.

Congratulations (of sorts ) to Tony and Caitlin on their performance at the recent Scottish Students championship. Both managed to find creative ways of losing while being ahead. Some work to be done on contest rules!
No classes Monday / Tuesday this week as the schools are closed, Wednesday classes on as usual.
Entries are coming in fast for our competition on the 3rd of March, looks like a full house again. As always anyone not competing is welcome to come along and spectate. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the teas and coffees, any help is greatly appreciated!

Some shots of Caitlin in action at our competition. An almost textbook example of Juji Gatame. Even with a “sore paw” managed to win!
Those who haven’t entered the ProJudo beginner event still have time. Please don’t miss this opportunity. Anyone unsure about their suitability, please let me know.

As we are now in the Easter break all classes at St Maurices are off. Classes return to normal on the 15th April. During the break we will run our normal Wednesday classes. Could everyone in our under 8's group planning to come along, please book in with our app. This will allow us to give notice if we don't have the minimum number to run the class.
A well done to the P1 / P2's of Glenmanor Primary who not only completed their first Judo P.E module, they also signed up for more Judo! Thanks to Mrs Livingstone for all her help with possibly the largest after schools club yet.

Congratulations to Barry on a fantastic performance today at the National grading in Kilmarnock. Winning all 5 fights by ippon to complete his points requirement for promotion to 1st Dan. Only the technical exam to go, before wearing that coveted Black Belt!
Everything is almost back to normal, just a couple of stragglers still to find their way back. Over the next few weeks we will be doing some taster sessions in the local schools, so look out for us!

A fantastic first night of Judo with our new starts from St Micheal’s Primary. Easily the best bunch of beginners we’ve had in years, obviously not the two at the back, although sometimes it’s hard to tell. Well done everyone and welcome to the club!
