No rest over the summer as we push forward with grading!

A good day at the Schools Championship.
One silver and two bronze medals.
Lots of positives and also areas we need to focus on for improving.
Proud of everyone that showed up and represented our club, their school and themselves impeccably.

Fight team are ready for Sunday. 🥋
3 competitors used to the competition mat, and a special shout to Coen “The Barbarian” Barnsley who after just 6 weeks of training is fighting in his first competition. 💪💪
All have put a lot of hard work in over the last few weeks and we’re all excited to see them in action at the Schools Championship.

A bittersweet moment as we have a great summer party, but also say goodbye to Grace as she heads off to university to study mental health nursing.
A fantastic club secretary and volunteer, the kids will miss her terribly (as will the 2 Marks who she organises!).
We’re grateful for everything she has done.
Juniors are taking a rest now over the summer, and our last hurrah is those fighting in the Schools Championship on Sunday.

We have our first ever First Dan black belt. 🥋
Congratulations to Shay, who today qualified for his 1st Dan grade by completing a “line up”, fighting a fresh opponent 3 times, one immediately after the other.
PD also qualified for a line up by winning 2 contests, but was pinned in his first line up fight. However he leaves with a lot of experience and another 20 points to his black belt.
Both players were exemplary in skill, conduct and are ambassadors of the highest level for the club.
Proud of you both and well done all the team for pushing them to get there.

A solid day of competition for the team. Plenty to smile about, things to fine tune,
However it takes massive guts to stand on a mat and fight. The team put on a resounding performance.

First up, Yvonne and Caitlin unfortunately drawn in the same group as the only 2 lighter females. First event for Yvonne against a seasoned opponent, but she was tenacious and strong against Caitlin. McBride had to dig deep into her techniques, and managed to pip Yvonne twice.

Tonight, Mark and Shay took a trip out of the dojo to stage a training session with the McQuillan GA & CC Ballycastle; MacUilín CLG Camogie team.
Getting the players used to grips, contact, looking for angles, breakfalls and a bit of fun thrown in as well!

A back and forth battle of titans, where the score was irrelevant and the winners were sport, friendship and the Nando’s shareholders! 😂
The only other winner was Yvonne, pulling out a stellar player of the match performance 🏆
Great fun and team building before we have our biggest contingent of players competing next weekend in Derry.
