Another year and our annual health check passed which means our Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts has been renewed for another year! Thank you Andrew Douglass for all the work you put into maintaining this award! 🥳
When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.

We had two competitors today travel to York for a Development Competition!
Charlie was up first and won his first with some solid attacks, his opponent picking up shidos and being disqualified. In his second fight he went down a waza ari score and had to really fight to get that score back. He managed to throw his opponent twice for waza ari, securing the win and gold medal! 🥇
Jay was in one of the last groups of the day, having been moved from the junior to senior categories to gain more fights. Jay had three fights and threw each opponent for the maximum ippon score, also gaining a gold m

Three of our team took a trip up to Ratho (Scotland) for a competition rules course led by Neil Adams MBE, double Olympic silver medallist, World Champion and five time European Champion and technical expert and referee supervisor for the IJF.
This course gave a good insight into current competitive Judo and can be put into practice through their training, coaching and refereeing.
Good work Robyn, Lewis & Rachael 🙌

Zac was in a pool of 5, stepping up a category from last year. He went on to win two of his contests and lost 2 (one of which was withdrawing through injury on medical advice). Zac placed third based on these results which is brilliant! 🥉
Jay won all three of his contests to take the gold! This is Jays third year in a row winning the gold in the Juni

Our Tuesday night sessions have became super busy recently and to ensure plenty of space on the mat for safe practice, we are implementing a waiting list for our Tuesday sessions.
So, if you're looking to join us, please drop our page a message, or email us and we'll add you to our list and contact you as soon as there's a space.
We do have some spaces available at our Ashington YMCA sessions on a Monday evening, and also our Saturday mornings at Newbiggin Sports Centre.

Massive thank you to all of our helpers today, and for everyone that supported our fundraising by popping change in the buckets or having a go of our tombola! We couldn’t have done it without you!
In total, we have raised £800.26, which is absolutely fantastic!!!
And a big thank you to Amanda from Asda Community Champions for her help in getting the day arranged, and her donations to the tombola!

Well done to Octobers Judoka of the Month - Jesse!
Jesse started the with us last year, but had a period of time out over the spring/summer after picking up an injury. Since returning after the summer Jesse has been very consistent with his training and improving week on week. His confidence has grown and he nailed his theory today at the gradings, gaining his 6th Kyu!
Congratulations Jesse, keep up the good work!
