After their warmup of exercises, stretches, breakfalls and cartwheels the junior group was split into two groups. The older group focused their efforts on transition into Newaza using various throws and transition as quickly as possible. The younger group used the safety mats and focused on Osoto Otoshi and transitioning into Kesa gatame. They carried this out in a round robin. Both groups worked well and produced some good results. They finally finished their session with their favourite game, dodgeball.

Great day out at Bonsai Kyoso in livingston today.

First up was the girl category and the only girl we had competing today was Mila, who came out the traps absolutely flying (literally!!) winning her first 2 fights some great throws and brilliant transition to ne waza. In her third fight she diverted her attention elsewhere for a split second and her opponent capitalised on it with a fantastic throw.

In the next group we had Oscar, Callan and Harris all competing across 3 mats at the same time!

Busy night at our Fighting Fit session last night - An excellent turn out for a holiday week, with 22 on the mat all working hard & getting extremely sweaty!

Ukemi & Ashi-waza practice to start, then fitness circuits, 8x 3-min transitional Randori bouts & we even had time for a game before the youngsters went off. To finish off, the adults carried on for a bit more Randori & technical practice.

Our next session is on April 22nd 6:45pm-7:45pm/8:15pm open for all ages & visitors welcome (minimum grade requirements & u8s by invitation only)

A few absent players this week mainly due to colds but the remainder carried on regardless. Warmup followed by breakfalls got the juniors ready for their session. The players paired up and started with De ashi Bari with the older players executing the throw on the move and the younger ones starting with toe tapping before moving onto the throw. Mune gatame was then demonstrated to them then everyone practiced De ashi Bari transitioning into Mune gatame. Finally the escape technique was demonstrated and then all three elements were put together and there was some excellent results from all play

After their warmup , stretching and breakfalls the junior session started with a demonstration of Tai Otoshi. The juniors were then paired off and went to practice. After a few changes they then went into some randori using competition rules and referee terminology to practice the throw in a competition environment. After a water break they began practicing transition into hold downs using Ogoshi into Kesa Gatame or Kuzushi Kesa Gatame then another round of randori as previously. The session finished with a game of crab football. A great effort from all the juniors and improvement was noticed

The junior session started with some relay races followed by stretching, breakfalls and cartwheels, it’s good to see their confidence in this activity improving. This evening was a continuation from last week, working on Ippon Seoi Nage and Seoi toshi. After some time working with these two throws individually and then as a combination the juniors were then introduced to Kami shiho gatame. This was then used in conjunction with the two throws as transition into Osaekomi waza (ground work).
